Lifetime learning: Insights from Postural Stability Training Course

The blog title works on a few levels — but the one I’m most excited about right now is the literal one. I recently completed my Postural Stability Instructor (PSI) training with Later Life Training (LLT), a UK-based provider specialising in exercise for older adults. The course qualifies professionals to plan and deliver the Falls Management Exercise programme — known as FaME — an evidence-based intervention specifically designed to improve balance and reduce falls risk in frailer older people. That’s the shpeil, but for me, it’s a natural fit with my NHS work, and something I’m genuinely proud to add to my practice.

FaME was first developed in 1999 by LLT Directors Dawn Skelton and Susie Dinan-Young, with Department of Health funding, and is backed by published research showing significant reductions in falls and falls-related injuries.

The video clip shown taken 3 months ago was midway through the course and since then I’ve continued to implement the FaME and Otago protocol essential for my NHS work however it’s now time to share more online tips to a least prompt one person to consider taking action to increase their activity be it at home or through seeking out a local class.

Much more to follow, but do feel free to reach out and comment or email me.

Thanks for reading and have a great day!
